Yesterday, I met a remarkable woman whom I am certain I will never forget. She is the mother of a boy living with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and like so many parents in similar circumstances, she scheduled a tour to learn more about the programs and services we offer at Firefly, hoping that we might be the answer for her 8-year-old son, Jackson.
Firefly Autism is proud to announce that friend and supporter Al Jackson has published a children's book about the Spectrum!

This is a story about three siblings exploring a vast computer generated, video game world with each other. In the end they learn that detaching themselves from their electronic devices reveals a world of fun, real outdoor play. What the kids reading the this may not notice as they go through the story is that one child; Ford, does not speak as he is non-verbal. The lesson is: you can still have an impact on the world and form bonds with those around you without speaking. |
