Center Based Program

School Age Program

Firefly’s School Age Programs, a Center-Based program are for children and young adults ages 7 to 21 years old, with our Primary Program serving children ages 7 to 13 and our Secondary Program serving individuals ages 14 to 18 years old. In addition, we have a Young Adult Program serving individuals ages 18 to 21 years old.

Our specialized programs identify each student’s individualized strengths and needs across multiple developmental areas including social, emotional, behavioral, language/communication, academics, and adaptive/life skills. Individual goals are created from a strength and needs assessment. Each goal includes multiple learning objects which are targeted daily. Progress on the objectives is assessed regularly. Children and young adults are taught how to learn from peers, how to work cooperatively with peers and how to find adaptive ways to communicate.

We also teach functional, replacement behaviors to replace their inappropriate, problem behaviors. This allows them to more appropriately adapt to their normal school and home environments. Teaching replacement behaviors ensures each individual has the skills needed for transition back to his or her own community. Appropriate academic skills, complex leisure skills leading to sustained periods of independent play, personal independence, community access, and vocation skills are also emphasized.
Programming goals focus on developing an individual’s ability to learn in a less restrictive environment while providing short-term behavioral intervention emphasizing skills that will ensure a successful and efficient transition back to his or her school and community environment. This innovative program, funded primarily by public school districts, includes 1:1 instruction by highly motivated and trained Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) overseen by highly qualified staff and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs).

Early Childhood Services

A program of Center-Based Services, Firefly’s Early Childhood Intervention Program serves children 18 months to 6 years old and utilizes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to assist each child in maximizing their learning potential. We use intensive instructional programming, and naturalistic teaching within daily routines to establish, maintain, and increase the children’s active engagement with people and their surroundings. Individual strengths and needs are identified across all developmental areas including social, language/communication, cognition, motor, play skills, and adaptive/life skills. Individual strengths and needs are identified across all developmental areas including social, language, cognition, motor, and play skills. Progress is assessed daily through graphing and data analysis with a review and revision of goals as needed. A primary focus of the program is functional communication and language. Services emphasize teaching a child to demonstrate the same developmental level as their neuro-typical peers. Therapy includes 1:1 teaching and training by highly motivated and trained staff to assist children who would benefit from an individualized, structured learning program.
