Finding Your People!
Love on the Spectrum
The desire to connect with another person and build a satisfying relationship exists in everyone! With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, many are excited to celebrate with their loved one. Individuals on the spectrum are also navigating through life with the same emotions and social expectations surrounding friendships and relationships.
However, people with autism often experience problems due to difficulties communicating with others recognizing non-verbal cues, discomfort with physical affection, and high levels of anxiety. Yet, with support, individuals with autism are able to overcome challenges associated with dating and develop successful relationships. At Firefly Autism, the social skills group was developed to meet the social and emotional needs of children on the spectrum. Firefly helps the members of the groups to effectively express feelings, to communicate with others, and to develop and maintain friendships in a positive, comfortable environment.
